Novel Approaches is the first of two books designed to help teachers who are implementing or developing a literature-based approach to reading. The teachers' notes provide practical suggestions for getting started, classroom organization, introducing themes or titles, questioning, reading conferences and broadening of response.
The questions and activities suggested are designed to enrich children's experiences of literature and to encourage them to compare, review and consolidate their experiences of the thematic issues and individual books.
The thematic questions and the questions about each title aim to elicit oral response. The activities are designed to encourage both individual and group work and to extend understanding and encourage appreciation and enjoyment of literature.
'Think, Talk, Write, Do' copy masters and a range of writer profiles and photographs are provided.
